Its been an incredible past few days celebrating the New York Rangers 1994 Stanley Cup Championship. A celebration that will last a lifetime.
This weekend Madison Square Garden Network will re-live all 16 wins in the 1994 playoffs. Beginning with the first playoff game that seasons against the rival New York Islanders and concluding with the game seven victory over the Vancouver Canucks on June 14, 1994.
The first round against the New York Islanders was a sweep followed by a five-game series win over the Washington Capitals.
Then came the epic seven-game series win that saw the Blueshirts trail the New Jersey Devils three games to two before the epic Guarantee by captain Mark Messier and of course the thrilling double-overtime winner in game seven by Stefan Matteau.
That win put the Rangers into their first Stanley Cup Finals since 1979. The series included the penalty shot save by Mike Richter off of the stick of the Russian Rocket Pavel Bure. The rest is history with the Blueshirts ending a 54-year drought and lifting their fans to hockey immortality.
